Abaco

Abaco is the third most populous island in The Bahamas and bears a resemblance to New England from which it attracts so many of its visitors and winter residents. Marsh Harbour is the commercial centre located on Great Abaco.

Abaco Island has naturally protected waters and dozens of offshore cays covering over 130 square miles of aquamarine water.

Abaco, located in the northern Bahamas, Its two major islands, Great Abaco and Little Abaco, have a myriad of small cays flanking the mainland. The sea channel between the islands allows for good cruising. typically boats pine forests and is frequented by hunters of wild boar and ducks. Its waters abound with fish, including the marlin and sailfish.


Andros

104 miles long and 40 miles wide Andros Island is the largest of all the Bahama Islands, Andros some 2,300 square miles is the fifth largest island in the Caribbean, but only has a population of 8,000 people. It has the world's third largest barrier reef which is over 140 miles long.

Located 20 miles west of New Providence, Andros has four airports and three official ports of entry. The USA Atlantic Undersea Testing and Evaluation Centre (AUTEC) Base also call Andros home.

Loyalists and their slaves settled in Andros in the late 19th Century.  It is also believed that the island could have been named after the inhabitants of St. Andro Island on the Mosquito Coast as 1,400 of them settled in Andros in 1787. Cotton and sisal were grown and later sponging became a flourishing industry in Andros for many years.


Bimini & the Berry Island

Bimini, situated 50 miles off the coast of Florida, is home to the finest fishing in the Bahamas that attract many a sportsmen to the championship fishing tournaments held year round. When diving in the waters of Bimini visit the underwater stone formation that is rumored to be part of the Lost City of Atlantis.

On the northeastern edge of the Great Bahama Bank, lie the Berry Island, a stirrup-shaped chain of 30 cays and numerous smaller islets. The Berries offer beautiful opportunities for both divers and snorkelers. Two of the largest cays are, Great Harbour Cay and Chub Cay, are where most of the Berry Island residents live, and are the centers for activity.

Cat Island

The story behind Cat Island, with its jewel-like hermitage, stretches out into the Atlantic Ocean and has a claim of being Columbus's original landing site in the New World. Cat Island is approximately 48 miles long and averages between one and four miles in width.

Cat Island was called San Salvador for more than four centuries however, in 1926, Watlings Island, also named after a pirate, was redesignated San Salvador and the name Cat Island was used once again.

Cat Island is the home of Mount Alvernia the highest point in the Bahamas in is an astounding 206 feet above sea level, Mount Alvernia is also a monastery called The Hermitage, built by Monsignor Jerome Hawkes.


Acklins and Crooked Island

Crooked Island, is known for its natural beauty and the Island has many quaint villages. It provides good fair weather cruising grounds and tidal flats. It has been known as a bonefish paradise and is also good for tarpon fishing.

Acklins, is long, narrow and hilly and has numerous caves and bays along its western shores. A ferry can be caught from Acklins  to Crooked Island; Both Islands are enclosed in a shallow lagoon known as the Bight of Acklins.


Eleuthera

The Island of Eleuthera is very inviting. It has the quaint settlements of Harbour Island (with its unique pink sandy beaches) and Spanish Wells with its white picket fences that will tickle your fancy, blooming hibiscus flowers for your beloved one.

 Eleuthera Island is 110 miles long according to historical lore, the original settlers called it Eleuthera, after the Greek word for freedom.

 Exuma

The Exuma islands are a string of islands and cays that stretch for about 130 miles beginning 30 miles southeast of New Providence. The Exuma chain comprises about 360 or more cays it is also the Home to the Bahamas National Trust’s Exuma National Land and Sea Park, one of the largest underwater and land preserves, Exuma is a nature lover's paradise kept in its original pristine setting.


Grand Bahama

Grand Bahama Island is the second most popular in The Bahamas. Where Nassau is a blend of the old and new, Freeport/Lucaya is a modernistic planned city, Freeport is the resort center of the Island where much action can be found. Shopping is also a feature as one can stroll through Port Lucaya and discover duty-free treasures from around the world.

Whether you’re looking for modern luxury or want to get away from civilization, Grand Bahama offers the best of both worlds.


Inagua

It is the southernmost island in The Bahamas and is mostly low and flat. Inagua is also a home and refuge of one of the world's largest colonies of flamingos. The third largest  island in the Bahamas, Inagua is also the hottest and the driest. Home to a plant of the Morton Salt Company it is the source of nearly a million pounds. Inagua is of interest to sportsmen and naturalists.

It has a large prairie in the centre where wild cattle, donkeys and boar are said to roam. There is also a large shallow lake, formerly Lake Windsor, now known as Lake Rosa, which is about 12 miles long and serves as the breeding ground for the largest colony of West Indian flamingoes in the Caribbean. The flamingoes live in a protected 287 square mile reserve called the Inagua National Park..


Long Island

Long Island's population is a little over 3,000, the Island is 80 miles long and is no more than four miles at its widest point, and it has some of the most beautiful beaches in the Bahamas. Christopher Columbus described Long Island as the most beautiful island he had ever seen.

 Long Island is considered by many to be one of the more picturesque islands in the Bahamas.


Mayaguana

Mayaguana is the most isolated major family island in the Bahamas. No one lived there until Turks Islanders migrated there in 1812.


Nassau and Paradise Island

Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas, located on New Providence Island offers a variety of experiences from non-stop excitement to peaceful relaxation. Nassau is the center of industry, commerce and communications and presents a special charm which captures the elegance of the old world while at the same time incorporating up-to-the-minute modern features. Nassau is also the home of the largest straw markets in the Caribbean.

Just minutes from Nassau there you will find Paradise Island that is linked by bridge is also close attractions, including the 14th-century French stone Cloisters . San Salvador

San Salvador it is small in size 63-square-mile located in the far eastern Bahamas, surrounded by superb beaches and reefs. It is an ideal place for snorkeling, diving and fishing.

San Salvador today consists of approximately 1500 persons who live in several small communities around the perimeter of the island.

The island was originally known as Guanahani by its first known inhabitants, the Lucayan Indians. The island was later the headquarters of the buccaneer George Watling which carried his name (Watlings Island) until 1925.

In 1951, the US Government built a Coast Guard station, a submarine tracking facility and a missile-tracking base, in San Salvador. When the U.S. military left the island in the late 1960s, they left an infrastructure of well-constructed buildings, an electrical power station, and a paved air strip. These facilities are now used by the Bahamas Government.
